Wakefield is a five-piece solid shaker door with a fine internal bead running around the centre panel. It has the familiar balance of a traditional shaker, but with a softer level of detail than more heavily profiled designs.
It is a good choice for homes that suit classic cabinetmaker character, but where you want the kitchen to feel calm, refined and easy to live with. The bead detail gives the door definition without making the cabinetry feel too decorative.
What gives Wakefield its flexibility is the choice between two finishes on the same door style. The painted version reads as a classic English shaker, available in a wide choice of colours. The stained Light Oak version brings natural warmth and visible grain into the cabinetry, creating a more timber-led version of the same traditional design.
Wakefield is a traditional handled shaker, and the hardware you choose has a real influence on the finished kitchen.
Knobs, cup handles, bar handles, aged brass, polished chrome, black metal or softer brushed finishes can all change the character of the room. The same Wakefield door can feel country, classical, coastal or more modern, depending on the colour, handle choice, worktop and surrounding finishes.
This keeps the design flexible without changing the integrity of the door. The bead detail remains rooted in traditional shaker cabinetry, while the finishing choices allow your kitchen to be tailored to your home.
The Wakefield door is a 20mm five-piece shaker. The frame is 93mm wide and made from solid ash or oak, with a matching veneer centre panel. A fine internal bead runs around the panel, giving the door its soft, traditional joinery character.
Painted Wakefield doors are finished in our workshop. Several coats are built up for depth, durability and an even appearance across the whole kitchen. The edges and reverse are colour-matched to the face, so the finish carries through when you open your cabinetry.
Light Oak Wakefield doors are protected with a clear lacquer, allowing the natural grain and tone of the timber to remain visible. This gives the kitchen warmth and texture while keeping the clean structure of a classic shaker design.
Wakefield is available in a curated set of Popular Colours that we keep ready to manufacture, alongside a wider Paint to Order palette of additional painted shades.
The painted colours suit kitchens where you want a softer, more tailored look. Warm neutrals, gentle greens, blues and deeper heritage shades all work well with Wakefield because the bead detail catches the light without creating a heavy shadow line.
Light Oak sits outside the painted palette as a natural timber finish in its own right. It is a strong choice if you want warmth, grain and a more relaxed traditional feel, especially when paired with stone worktops, soft wall colours and natural flooring.
Samples are especially useful with Wakefield because painted and oak finishes both change in your own light. A colour that feels soft on screen may look warmer, cooler or deeper in your kitchen, depending on the room, flooring, worktops and natural light.
Worktops and splashbacks make a real difference to how Wakefield feels in the room. A warmer stone can soften painted colours and tie them back to Light Oak. A cooler quartz or composite can give the same painted finish a cleaner, more contemporary edge.
The splashback can sit quietly against the wall for a calm, continuous run, or step up in tone to give the working area more presence.
Lighting under wall units and inside open shelving brings the bead detail to life in the evening, with shadow falling neatly around the centre panel. Daylight from larger windows brings out the grain in Light Oak more clearly, especially across longer runs of cabinetry.
Wakefield gives you the door style, finish and character, but your Mastercraft kitchen is planned around much more than the door.
We look at the shape of your room, where the light falls, how you cook, what you need close to hand and how the kitchen connects with the rest of your home. The cabinetry, worktops, storage, appliances, lighting and finishing details are all brought together as one complete design.
The result is a Mastercraft kitchen with quiet traditional character – designed around your home, made in your chosen Wakefield finish and planned for the way you want the space to feel.
