Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. How the light moves through it, how you enter and leave, how it sits in relation to the rest of the house. Those things determine how the layout should work. Proportions come first. Everything else, materials, finishes, storage, follows from that foundation.

Thame draws a wide range of property types. Medieval and Tudor timber-framed town houses on and around the high street. Georgian and Victorian detacheds throughout the town. Large family homes on the edges. Period farmhouses out into the South Oxfordshire countryside. Each has its own proportions, its own character, its own set of constraints. Your kitchen is designed to work within the architecture you have, not imposed on top of it.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot be moved, these are resolved properly at the design stage. Every dimension is accounted for before manufacturing begins. Nothing is left to be figured out on installation day, and nothing arrives on site that does not fit the room it was made for.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The person who designs it understands exactly how it will be made, because design and making happen under the same roof.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled before it leaves, not flat-pack components put together on site. Factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish than anything built from a kit in your kitchen. What arrives is already a kitchen, not a collection of parts.

The same standard runs through everything, not just the parts you see every day. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you rarely look at are built to the same standard as the ones you do. That is what determines how well a kitchen holds up over years of real use.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not working from standard sizes or a fixed catalogue. If your room needs an unusual width, a run of cabinetry beneath a sloping ceiling, or something specific to your space, we design and build it exactly as required. There is no standard configuration to work around.

Your Kitchen Project in Thame, Handled From Start to Finish

From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating trades or chasing progress between separate contractors. There are no gaps in responsibility, no handoffs. Everything moves forward properly because the same team holds it from the very beginning to the very end.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, especially when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. No one arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time and trying to work out what was intended.

Whether your home is a timber-framed town house near the high street, a Georgian or Victorian detached, a large family home on the edge of Thame, or a period farmhouse in the surrounding South Oxfordshire countryside, your project starts from your specific situation. The design responds to what your house is actually like, not to a standard programme drawn up for a different kind of home.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for things that were not fully resolved at the design stage. It has all been accounted for before the first cabinet leaves the workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bespoke kitchen project take from start to finish?

It depends on the complexity of your room and the specification you choose, but most projects run over several months from initial consultation to completed installation. The design process takes time to do properly, and manufacturing follows once everything is confirmed. We will give you a clear timeline early on so you know what to expect and when.

What happens at the first design consultation?

We come to your home and look at the space properly. We talk through how you use your kitchen, what works in the current layout and what does not, and what you want the new kitchen to do for you. It is a practical conversation, not a sales pitch. We take in the room, ask the right questions, and begin to understand what your project actually involves.

Can you work with unusual rooms, low ceilings, awkward angles, chimney breasts?

Yes, and those kinds of rooms are exactly where bespoke design makes the most difference. Because we design and build everything ourselves, we are not trying to fit standard units into a space they were not made for. Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping rooflines, awkward junctions, those are resolved at the design stage, not worked around on installation day.

What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?

It varies considerably, which is why we are honest about the range rather than quoting a single figure. The cost is shaped by the size of your room, the materials and finishes you choose, the appliances you include, and the level of storage and interior detail you want. A straightforward kitchen in a moderately sized room will sit at a different level to a large kitchen with extensive cabinetry, premium worktops, and a full appliance specification. Think of it as an investment in your home rather than a purchase with a fixed price tag. Once we have seen your space and understood what you are looking for, we can give you a realistic picture.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes. When a kitchen is part of a wider building project, an extension, a full ground-floor renovation, or a significant layout change, having design and manufacturing under one roof is genuinely useful. We can work alongside your architect or builder, and because we control the design and the making ourselves, we can respond to changes in the build programme without it unravelling your kitchen specification. It makes coordination simpler and reduces the risk of decisions made in isolation.

What styles of kitchen do you design?

We design across a wide range, from kitchens that sit naturally within period properties to cleaner, more contemporary spaces. Because everything is designed from scratch, your kitchen is not drawn from a fixed collection of door styles and finishes. We work from your home and your brief, and the design follows from that. If you have a clear idea of what you want, we work to it. If you are less certain, we help you get there.

Are your kitchens manufactured in the UK?

Yes. Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is built and assembled there before anything comes to your home. That means we control the quality directly at every stage, and we are not dependent on third-party supply chains to deliver what was designed.

How does installation work, and how long does it take?

Our own installation team carries out the fit. Because the cabinetry is made to the precise dimensions of your room and arrives factory assembled, installation is efficient and controlled. The length of time on site depends on the size and complexity of your kitchen, but we plan the programme carefully and keep disruption to a minimum. You will know what to expect before work begins.

Do you handle the removal of my existing kitchen?

Yes. Stripping out your existing kitchen is part of the process. We handle it cleanly and properly so the room is ready for installation to begin. You do not need to arrange separate contractors for that part of the project.

Will the kitchen be designed to work with my existing appliances, or do I need to replace them?

Either is possible. If you have appliances you want to keep, we design around them. If you are replacing them as part of the project, we can advise on specification and work with your chosen appliances from the outset. The layout and cabinetry are designed to suit whatever you decide.

How do you handle period properties where walls cannot be moved or features need to be preserved?

That is a familiar situation in Thame, where many homes have original features worth keeping. We design around fixed constraints rather than against them. Existing beams, chimney breasts, stone or brick walls, irregular floor levels, these become part of the design brief. The kitchen is drawn to work with the character of the room, not to fight it.

What is the first step if I want to find out more?

Get in touch and tell us a little about your home and what you are thinking about. We will have a brief initial conversation, and if it makes sense to take it further, we arrange a visit to your home to look at the space properly. There is no obligation and no pressure, it is simply the right way to begin.
