Your Kitchen, Designed for Your Harpenden Home
If you are planning a new kitchen in Harpenden, we design it specifically for your home, your room, your proportions, your way of living in the space.

Designed Around Your Home
Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. How the light moves through it, where you enter from, how it connects to the rest of the house. Those things shape the layout before any visual decisions are made. Get the proportions and the flow right first. Everything else follows from that.
Harpenden has a wide variety of homes, large detached houses, Arts and Crafts period properties, executive family homes, spacious semis that have been extended over the years. Each one brings its own footprint, ceiling height and architectural character. Your kitchen is designed to sit within that, not imported from a drawing that was made for a completely different kind of house.
Alcoves, chimney breasts, low ceilings, walls that cannot move, these are all things that get resolved at the design stage, not on installation day. Every dimension is measured and accounted for before manufacturing begins. When the kitchen arrives at your home, it is built for the room it is going into.
Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The person who designs it understands exactly how it will be made, and that makes a real practical difference from start to finish.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last
Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled before it leaves, not flat-pack components pieced together on site. Factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish. It is simply a more controlled way to build cabinetry, and the difference shows in the finished result.
The same standard runs through the whole kitchen, not just the parts on show every day. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings, all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you open and close hundreds of times a year are built with exactly the same care as the ones you see first. That is what determines how well your kitchen holds up over time.
Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not working from standard sizes or catalogue configurations. If your room needs an unusual width, a run built beneath a sloping ceiling, or anything specific to your space, we design and build it to those exact requirements. There is no catalogue constraint to work around.
Your Harpenden Kitchen Project, Handled from Start to Finish
From your first conversation to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not coordinating trades or chasing progress updates. There are no handoffs between separate contractors and no gaps in responsibility. Everything moves forward because one team holds it from the very beginning to the very end.
The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, especially when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. No one arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time and making decisions on the spot.
Whether you are working with a large period property near the common, an extended family home or a newer executive house, each project starts from its own position. Your room, your layout, your way of using the space. We do not adjust a standard programme to fit your house, we build the programme around it.
Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to make up for things that were not properly resolved at the design stage. What was planned is what gets installed.

Why People in Harpenden Choose Mastercraft
A kitchen is one of the most significant investments you will make in your home. The team you choose needs to be able to design it properly, build it properly and install it properly. Mastercraft is a design and manufacturing practice, not a showroom brand selling from a catalogue.
- Designed, made and installed by the same team, no handovers, no gaps in responsibility.
- No showroom model. We work from your home, not from a catalogue of standard options.
- Every kitchen designed from scratch for your specific room and how you use it.
- Built in our own UK workshop to the tolerances a bespoke kitchen genuinely demands.
- A kitchen designed and built to last, not one that needs replacing in ten years.
Begin Your Kitchen Design
If you are thinking about a new kitchen in Harpenden, the best starting point is a conversation. There is no pressure and no obligation. Just a straightforward discussion about your home, your space and what you are hoping to achieve.
A design consultation is a practical visit, we come to your home, look at the space properly and talk through what is possible. It is the only sensible way to begin a project like this. From there, we can give you a clear picture of what your kitchen could be.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the whole process take, from first conversation to installation?
It varies depending on the size and complexity of your kitchen, but as a general guide you should allow around four to six months from your initial consultation to installation. That covers the design process, any revisions, manufacturing and scheduling the installation. We will give you a clear timeline once we have a good understanding of your project.
What happens at the first design consultation?
We come to your home, look at the room properly and have a straightforward conversation about how you use the space, what is working and what is not, and what you want from the finished kitchen. We take measurements and talk through the possibilities. There is no presentation to sit through and no obligation at the end of it.
What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?
It depends on a number of things, the size of the room, the materials you choose, the appliances, and how much storage detail and internal organisation is involved. As a starting point, most of our kitchens sit in the range of fifty thousand to one hundred thousand pounds, though projects can sit above or below that depending on the scope. The honest answer is that we cannot give you a meaningful number without understanding your room and what you are looking for. What we can tell you is that a bespoke kitchen is a long-term investment in your home, not something you will need to replace in a decade.
Can you work with unusual room shapes or awkward features?
Yes, and that is genuinely where bespoke design makes the most difference. Chimney breasts, alcoves, sloping ceilings, structural walls, awkward corners, these are all things we resolve at the design stage. Every cabinet is built to your room's exact dimensions, so there is no compromising around features that cannot be moved.
Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?
Yes. If your kitchen is part of a wider building project, a rear extension, an open-plan remodel, a full ground-floor renovation, we are well placed to be involved from the early stages. Having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly valuable in those situations. We can work alongside your architect or builder, make sure the kitchen design informs the structural decisions where needed, and ensure that what gets built matches exactly what was drawn. It avoids the gaps that tend to appear when separate parties are each working from their own version of the plan.
What styles of kitchen do you design?
We do not work from a fixed range of styles. Your kitchen is designed from scratch, so the look is determined by your home and your preferences rather than a catalogue. Whether your house calls for something that sits in keeping with its period architecture or something more contemporary, we design around that. We will talk through what feels right for your home during the design process.
Where is my kitchen made?
In our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is built there, fully assembled, before anything leaves for your home. It is not flat-pack construction put together on site, the cabinetry arrives as finished units, built to the exact dimensions of your room.
Who carries out the installation?
Our own installation team, the same people who work with us throughout every project. They know exactly what has been designed and how it has been built. You are not handed over to a separate fitting company at the end of the process.
How disruptive is the installation, and how long does it take?
We will give you a clear picture of the installation timeline before work begins. Most kitchen installations take between one and three weeks depending on size and complexity. We plan the work carefully to minimise disruption where possible and keep you informed throughout. Because everything is made to measure and arrives ready to fit, there are no on-site surprises that extend the programme.
Can I choose my own appliances, or do you supply them?
We can supply appliances or work around ones you have already chosen. Either way, the kitchen is designed around them from the start, not adjusted to fit them in afterwards. If you are undecided, we can talk through the options during the design process.
Do you handle the worktops as well as the cabinetry?
Yes. Worktops are part of the kitchen design and specified as part of the same project. Whether you are looking at stone, quartz, hardwood or something else, we include them in the design from the outset so that everything is considered together, not added on at the end.
We are still in the early stages of planning, is it too soon to get in touch?
Not at all. In fact, earlier is usually better. If your kitchen is part of an extension or a wider renovation, getting us involved while plans are still being drawn up means the kitchen design can properly inform the layout decisions, rather than being fitted into a space that was fixed without it in mind. Even if you are just starting to think about it, a first conversation costs nothing and can help you get a clearer picture of what is involved.
