TANDEMBOX Steel Back
This is a steel back panel that forms part of Blum's TANDEMBOX drawer system. Rather than the wooden or MDF backs you might expect, this steel component creates the rear wall of your drawer box.
Where It Fits
The steel back slots into TANDEMBOX drawer sides to complete the drawer box structure. It's designed for cabinets with a 300mm internal width, making it suitable for narrow storage units like spice drawers, cutlery organisers, or slim pantry pull-outs.
How It Works
The back piece pushes into position between the drawer sides and secures with screws. This creates a rigid box structure that prevents items from falling out the back of your drawer. The steel construction means it won't bow or flex under load like some alternatives might.
Why It Matters
A proper back panel stops small items from escaping into the cabinet void behind your drawer. More importantly, it maintains the structural integrity of the drawer box, particularly when fully loaded. The steel material resists moisture better than wood-based alternatives, which matters in kitchen environments.
Design Consideration
This works well when you need dependable containment and don't mind the industrial appearance. However, if your drawer design requires a specific aesthetic or you plan to store items that might scratch against steel, you might prefer alternative back panel materials. The grey finish coordinates with the TANDEMBOX system but remains visible inside the drawer.
Build Quality
Blum manufactures this from steel with a grey powder-coated finish. The lifetime guarantee reflects the durability you'd expect from steel construction. It's designed to withstand repeated loading cycles without degrading.
Closing Guidance
Consider this if you're building narrow drawers where structural integrity matters more than appearance, or where moisture resistance is important. Your kitchen designer can advise whether steel backs suit your particular drawer contents and usage patterns.
