Replanning a Converted Manor Kitchen in Poulton-le-Fylde

Before and After. The Mastercraft Difference.

This project involved reworking a kitchen within a converted manor in Poulton-le-Fylde, where the existing layout felt enclosed and restrictive. By opening through into the adjoining utility room, the space was reshaped to allow more light and a more natural flow across the ground floor. Part of the former utility area was redefined as a practical boot room, keeping everyday storage separate from the main kitchen. The result is a layout that feels balanced, functional, and far better suited to how the space is used day to day.

1. The Original Space

A Closed-In, Broken Layout

The room felt restricted and disconnected, with a layout that limited how you could move and use the space. The kitchen and utility areas worked against each other rather than as one, making the whole space feel smaller than it was.

Dated Cabinetry and Limited Function

The existing units had outlived their purpose, with a mix of finishes and inefficient storage that didn’t support everyday use. Worktop space was fragmented, leaving very little room for proper preparation.

A Cramped Utility with No Real Use

The adjoining utility room was tight and underused, offering little in the way of practical storage. There was no dedicated space for coats, shoes, or day-to-day items, adding to the overall sense of clutter.

2. The Design Approach

Opening the Space and Bringing in Light

To completely change how the room worked, we opened the kitchen through into a previously cramped utility area. This allowed natural light to move more freely across the space and created the footprint needed for a more sociable layout. The new plan introduced a central breakfast island, shifting the room towards a space designed for everyday living rather than just cooking.

Creating a Practical Boot Room Area

As part of the reconfiguration, a section of the former utility space was redesigned into a dedicated boot room. This now provides proper storage for coats, shoes, and day-to-day items, helping to keep the main kitchen area clear and organised.

Fully Rebuilt, Properly Finished

The room was taken back to a shell and rebuilt from the ground up. This included a full rewire, new plastering, ceiling lighting, and integrated cabinet lighting. Every part of the space was addressed to ensure it performs as well as it looks.

A Mastercraft Kitchen at the Centre

The finished kitchen is a Mastercraft Aldana design in porcelain, paired with a reed green island to bring contrast and depth to the layout. Calacatta Gold quartz worktops run throughout, giving a consistent surface that works both visually and practically within the space.

Storage and Appliances Built for Everyday Use

A bespoke breakfast pantry was designed into the cabinetry, creating a dedicated area for daily essentials. The layout also incorporates a full suite of integrated AEG appliances, including tall fridge and freezer units, a pyrolytic oven, combi microwave oven, and warming drawer, all positioned for ease of use within the overall design.

Making Everything Easy to Reach

Accessibility was a key part of the brief. Every cupboard includes internal storage solutions such as pull-out baskets and pull-down wall units, ensuring everything is easy to see, reach, and use on a daily basis.

Finishing the Space Properly

The project was completed with new Invictus flooring running throughout, tying the room together visually, along with two tall radiators that provide effective heating without interrupting the layout.

3. The Finished Kitchen

A Light, Open Kitchen That Flows

What was once a closed and awkward layout is now a bright, open space that works as one. The connection between areas feels natural, with the island creating a central point for both everyday use and socialising.

A Kitchen That Works Effortlessly

Everything now has its place and purpose. From the integrated appliances to the accessible storage and dedicated boot room, the space is easier to use, easier to move through, and far more suited to the way you live day to day.
