Your Kitchen, Designed for Your Matlock Home

Whether you live in a Victorian villa near the Derwent or a stone-built home on the edge of the Peak District, your kitchen is designed specifically for your space, not adapted from something that was drawn up for a different house entirely.

Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. Where the light comes from, how you move through the space, how it connects to the rest of your home. Layout and proportion come first. Once those are right, the visual decisions follow naturally. Getting that order correct is what separates a kitchen that works from one that just looks good in a photograph.

Matlock homes come in distinct forms. Stone-built spa town properties with their generous ceiling heights and solid walls. Victorian villas with bay windows and original fireplaces. Peak District family homes where practicality and character sit alongside each other. Each brings its own proportions. Your kitchen is designed to sit within that architecture, not placed on top of it as if the building were not there.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, walls that cannot move, ceilings that slope where a run of cabinetry needs to go: these are resolved properly at the design stage. Every dimension is accounted for before manufacturing begins. When installation day comes, nothing is being worked around or compensated for on the spot.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The person who designs it understands exactly how it will be made, because they are part of the same operation from the first conversation to the final fitting.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled before it leaves, not flat-pack components put together on site. That factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish than anything built in your kitchen from a kit. It also means the whole structure is stable and true from the moment it goes in.

The same standard runs through the whole kitchen, not just the parts that catch the eye. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you do not see every day are built to exactly the same standard as the ones you do. That consistency is what determines how well your kitchen holds up over years of daily use.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not working from standard sizes or fixed catalogue configurations. If your room calls for an unusual cabinet width, a run of units beneath a sloping ceiling, or something specific to a corner or recess in your space, we design and build it to exactly those dimensions. The room sets the brief, not the other way round.

Your Matlock Kitchen Project, Handled from Start to Finish

From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating separate trades or chasing progress between contractors. There are no handoffs, no gaps in responsibility. Everything moves forward properly because one team holds the project from beginning to end.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, particularly when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. Nobody arrives on site and sees your plans for the first time. Everyone involved already knows the project.

Matlock homes each bring their own starting point. A stone spa town property has different constraints to a Victorian villa or a Peak District farmhouse. Your project is treated on its own terms. We do not adjust your home to fit a standard programme drawn up for a different kind of house. We build the programme around what your home actually is.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for measurements that were not properly taken, or details that were not fully resolved at the design stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bespoke kitchen project take from first conversation to installation?

It varies depending on the complexity of your project and how quickly decisions are made, but as a general guide you should allow several months from your initial consultation to installation. The design stage takes time to get right, manufacturing follows once everything is confirmed, and installation is planned around your schedule. We will give you a clear timeline once we understand the scope of your project.

What happens at the first design consultation?

We come to your home, look at the space properly, take in the architecture and the way you use the room, and talk through what you want your kitchen to do. It is a practical conversation, not a sales presentation. By the end of it, you will have a clearer picture of what is involved and how we would approach your project. There is no obligation to proceed.

Can you design a kitchen around an unusual room layout or period features?

Yes, and this is exactly the kind of work we are set up for. Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot be moved: these are all resolved at the design stage. Because we design and build everything ourselves, we are not constrained by standard sizes or catalogue configurations. Your room sets the parameters and we design within them.

What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?

A bespoke kitchen from Mastercraft is a significant investment, and the range is wide because so much depends on the specifics of your project. The size of your room, the materials and finishes you choose, the appliances you want to include, and the level of storage detail all have a substantial effect on the overall cost. Rather than quoting figures that quickly become misleading, we prefer to have an honest conversation once we understand your space and what you are looking for. What we can say is that this is the kind of investment you make once, in a kitchen that is built to last, not something you are replacing in a decade.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes. If your kitchen is part of a wider building project, having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly useful. We can work alongside your architect or builder from an early stage, making sure the kitchen design is properly integrated into the wider plans rather than treated as a separate afterthought. The fact that we control design, manufacturing and installation ourselves means there are fewer variables and less room for things to fall between the gaps when a project is more complex.

What kitchen styles do you offer?

Because every kitchen is designed from scratch, you are not choosing from a fixed range of styles. That said, most kitchens fall into a few broad directions: shaker, in-frame, handleless, and contemporary. We work across all of them and can talk you through what tends to suit different kinds of homes and spaces. The architecture of your room often points naturally toward a particular direction, and that is a good starting point for the conversation.

How is the kitchen actually manufactured?

Your kitchen is built in our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled before it leaves, so when it arrives at your home it is ready to install, not a set of flat-pack components to be built on site. That approach produces a more consistent finish and tighter tolerances than anything assembled in your kitchen from a kit.

Who carries out the installation?

Our own installation team, the same people who have been involved throughout the project. They know your kitchen because they have been part of it from the design stage. Nobody arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time.

Do you supply appliances as well as the kitchen itself?

Yes. We can advise on and supply appliances as part of the overall project. Integrating appliances at the design stage is always better than specifying them separately, because the dimensions and technical requirements are built into the kitchen from the start rather than worked around later.

I live in an older Matlock property with thick stone walls. Does that affect things?

It is something we account for at the survey and design stage. Older stone-built properties often have walls that are not perfectly square, floors that are not level, and specific constraints around where services run. All of that is measured and resolved before manufacturing begins, so your kitchen fits the room as it actually is, not as a standard drawing assumes it to be.

How far in advance should I get in touch if I am planning a kitchen project?

The earlier the better, particularly if your kitchen is part of a building project or renovation. Even if you are not ready to commit to anything, an early conversation helps clarify the scope, timeline and budget, which makes everything that follows easier to plan. There is no pressure to make decisions before you are ready.

What worktop materials do you work with?

We work with a wide range of worktop materials including stone, quartz, solid wood, and laminates. The right choice depends on how you use your kitchen, the overall look you want, and your budget for that part of the project. We will talk you through the options that make sense for your specific kitchen during the design process.
