Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well starts before any door style or finish is chosen. It starts with the room itself: how light moves through it, how you enter and leave it, how it connects to the rest of your house. We work out the layout and proportions first. Everything else follows from that. Getting those decisions right is what makes the difference in daily use.

Workington has a real range of housing, from Victorian terraces with their long narrow plans and front-to-back layouts, to inter-war semis with their own proportions, to coastal family homes where the kitchen often needs to work harder as a central space. Each type of property sets a different starting point. Your kitchen is designed to sit within the architecture of your home, not imposed on it.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, load-bearing walls, awkward corners: these are resolved at the design stage, not on the day installation begins. Every dimension is accounted for before manufacturing starts. By the time your kitchen is being built, the room has been fully understood and everything has been drawn to reflect it precisely.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The person who designs it understands exactly how it will be made and fitted. There are no handovers and no gaps.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built to the exact dimensions of your room. Every cabinet arrives rigid and factory assembled, not as flat-pack components put together on site. Assembly in a controlled workshop environment produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish than anything built in your kitchen from a kit. That difference shows in how the finished kitchen looks and how it holds together over time. You can read more about our manufacturing standards and how we build if you want to understand what goes into it.

The same standard runs through the whole kitchen, not just the surfaces you see every day. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you open and close a hundred times a week are built to the same quality as everything else. That is what determines how well your kitchen holds up over years of use, not just how it looks when it is first installed.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not working from a catalogue of fixed sizes. If your room needs a cabinet at an unusual width, a run that follows a sloping ceiling, or something specific to your layout, we design and build it exactly as your space requires. Nothing is adjusted to fit a standard module that was drawn for a different room.

Your Workington Kitchen Project, Handled from Start to Finish

From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating separate trades or chasing progress updates. There are no handoffs between contractors, no points where responsibility becomes unclear. Everything moves forward properly because the same team holds it throughout. Our process is straightforward from the very first conversation.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity matters in practice, especially when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. No one arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time, wondering how a particular detail was intended to work.

Workington homes cover a wide range, from Victorian terraces with tight rear extensions to inter-war semis and larger coastal family homes. Each brings its own starting point, its own constraints, and its own possibilities. Your project is treated on its own terms, not fitted into a standard programme that was drawn up for a different kind of house.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything goes into production. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no last-minute adjustments to compensate for things that were not fully resolved at the design stage. The preparation does the work before the installation begins.

Begin Your Kitchen Design

If you are thinking about a new kitchen in Workington, the best place to start is a conversation. There is no obligation and no pressure. We will talk through your home, your room and what you are hoping to achieve, and take it from there at whatever pace suits you.

A design consultation is a practical conversation, not a sales meeting. We come to your home, look at the space properly and begin to understand what the room needs. From there, we can give you a clear sense of what is possible and how the process works. No obligation on your part.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bespoke kitchen project take from start to finish?

It depends on the complexity of your project, but as a general guide you should allow several months from your initial consultation through to installation being complete. The design stage takes time to get right, manufacturing is carried out in our workshop once everything is confirmed, and installation is scheduled when your cabinetry is ready. We will give you a clear timeline once we understand your room and what is involved.

What happens at the first consultation?

We come to your home and spend time in the room with you. We look at the space properly, talk through what you want from your kitchen, and discuss how you use it day to day. It is a practical conversation, not a presentation. There is no obligation attached to it, and you are not being asked to make any decisions on the day.

Can you work with awkward rooms or unusual layouts?

Yes, and in many cases that is exactly where bespoke design adds the most value. If your kitchen has a chimney breast, a sloping ceiling, an alcove, or walls that cannot be moved, we design around those things rather than treating them as problems. Every constraint is resolved at the design stage, before manufacturing begins.

What styles of kitchen can I choose from?

We do not work from a fixed menu of styles. That said, most kitchens fall into a few broad design directions, and we can talk you through what suits your home and your taste. Shaker kitchens work well in many Workington properties, particularly Victorian terraces and inter-war homes. We also design handleless and in-frame kitchens depending on what fits the space. The right style for your kitchen comes out of the design conversation, not a catalogue.

How does the manufacturing process work?

Once your design is finalised and all measurements are confirmed, your kitchen is built in our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is assembled rigid before it leaves the workshop. We do not send flat-pack components to be assembled on site. Manufacturing to precise dimensions in a controlled environment produces a better result and means installation goes more smoothly.

Who carries out the installation?

Our own installation team. The same people who have been involved in your project throughout carry out the installation. They arrive knowing your room, your design and how everything is intended to fit together. You are not dealing with a separate contractor who is seeing your kitchen for the first time on the day.

What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?

Bespoke kitchens vary considerably depending on the size of the room, the materials you choose, the appliances you include and the level of storage detail involved. A larger kitchen with high-specification worktops and a full set of quality appliances will cost more than a smaller, more straightforward project. Rather than quote figures that may not reflect your specific situation, the most useful thing we can do is talk through your project and give you a clear picture of what is involved. What we would say is that a bespoke kitchen from Mastercraft is a long-term investment in your home, designed and built to last, not to be replaced in a decade.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes. If your kitchen is part of a wider building project, an extension, a rear remodel or a whole-ground-floor renovation, having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly useful. We can work closely with your architect or builder, and because we control the design and manufacturing ourselves, we can respond to changes in the project without things falling apart. We have worked on projects of that kind across the Workington area and the wider Cumbria region.

Can you match or work around existing features in my home?

Yes. If you have period details, existing joinery or specific architectural features you want to retain or complement, we factor those into the design from the beginning. This is one of the advantages of designing individually from scratch rather than adapting something from a standard range.

What worktop options are available?

We work with a wide range of worktop materials including stone, quartz, solid wood and laminates, depending on your design and how you use your kitchen. The right material for your worktop depends on your lifestyle as much as your taste, and we will talk through the options with you as part of the design process. You can also take a look at our worktop options to get a sense of what is available before we meet.

How far in advance should I get in touch?

The earlier the better, particularly if your kitchen is part of a building project with a fixed programme. Even if your project is still at the planning stage, an early conversation helps us understand what you are working towards and means the design process is not rushed. There is no commitment required at that stage.

Do I need to visit a showroom?

No. We come to you. The first consultation happens in your home because that is where the design begins. Seeing your room, your light and your space in person is far more useful than anything that can be discussed in a showroom. If you would like to see examples of our work or talk through materials in more detail, we can arrange that as the project develops.
