A bespoke kitchen design for a Whitby home by Mastercraft Kitchens
Designed Around Your Home
Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. How the light moves through it, where the natural flow is, how it connects to the rest of your home. Layout and proportions come first. The decisions about style, finish and detail follow from those. Getting the fundamentals right at the start is what makes everything else work.
Whitby homes bring their own distinct starting points. A Victorian seafront property carries different proportions to a fisherman’s cottage in the old town, and a character townhouse near the harbour presents a different set of considerations again. Your kitchen is designed to work within the architecture you have, not imposed on top of it.
Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot move: these are resolved at the design stage, not discovered on installation day. By the time manufacturing begins, every dimension is fully accounted for. The things that make your room individual are built into the design from the start, not treated as problems to work around later.
Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The person who designs your kitchen understands exactly how it will be made, and that connection runs through the whole project.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last
Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled before it leaves, not flat-pack components put together on site. Factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish. You can see and feel the difference, and it is the reason our kitchens hold up properly over time.
The same standard runs through the whole kitchen, not just the parts you see every day. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings: all specified to the same level as the doors and worktops. The components you open and close hundreds of times a year are built to exactly the same standard as the ones on display. That consistency is what determines how well your kitchen performs over the long term.
Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not limited by standard sizes or catalogue configurations. If your room needs an unusual width, a run that follows a sloping ceiling, or a configuration specific to your space, we design and build it exactly as required. The workshop exists to serve the design, not the other way around.
Your Whitby Kitchen Project, Handled from Start to Finish
From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating trades or chasing progress. There are no handoffs between separate contractors, no gaps in responsibility. Everything moves forward properly because one team holds it throughout. If you want to understand how the process works, we are happy to walk you through it before you commit to anything.
The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, especially when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. No one arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time. Every stage follows naturally from the one before it.
Whitby homes vary considerably in character and construction. A Victorian seafront property, a fisherman’s cottage, a period townhouse: each brings its own starting point. Your project is planned on its own terms, around your room and your situation, not adjusted to fit a standard programme that was drawn up for a different kind of house.
Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for things that were not fully resolved at the design stage. The preparation is thorough because it needs to be.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a bespoke kitchen project take from first conversation to installation?
It varies depending on the complexity of your room and the finish you choose, but most projects run from initial consultation through to completed installation over a period of around twelve to sixteen weeks. We will give you a clear timeline once we have seen your space and understood what the project involves.
What happens at the first design consultation?
We come to your home and look at the room properly. We talk through how you use your kitchen, what you want to change, what is and is not working at the moment. From there we take measurements and begin forming a picture of the design. It is a practical conversation, not a sales meeting, and there is no obligation to proceed.
What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?
It is genuinely difficult to give a single figure because the range is wide, and for good reason. The size of your room, the materials you choose, the appliances you want, and the level of storage detail all affect the overall cost significantly. A smaller kitchen in a fisherman's cottage will sit at a very different price point to a large open-plan space in a Victorian townhouse. What we can say is that projects like these are typically an investment of several tens of thousands of pounds, and we are upfront about costs from the earliest stage. When you speak to us, we will give you an honest assessment based on your specific home, not a figure pulled from thin air.
Can you work with the awkward features in my Whitby home, things like sloping ceilings or unusual alcoves?
Yes, and those kinds of features are exactly where a genuinely bespoke approach makes the most difference. Because we design and build your kitchen ourselves, we are not limited to standard sizes or shapes. Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping rooflines: all of these are resolved at the design stage and built into the cabinetry, so they become part of the kitchen rather than things it works around.
What kitchen styles do you offer?
We design across a wide range of styles, from classic shaker kitchens that sit naturally in period Whitby homes, through to in-frame and more contemporary designs. Because everything is made to order, you are not choosing from a fixed catalogue. The style, the finish, the detailing: all of it is decided around your home and what suits the character of your space.
Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?
Yes, and having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly useful when your kitchen is part of a wider building project. If you are extending or reconfiguring your home, we can work alongside your architect or builder from early in the process, so the kitchen is designed into the new space properly rather than fitted into it as an afterthought. That coordination saves time and avoids the kind of problems that arise when different contractors are working from different assumptions.
How is my kitchen manufactured?
Your kitchen is built in our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is rigid and factory assembled, so it leaves the workshop as a finished, solid unit rather than a flat-pack kit. We build to the exact dimensions of your room, so when the installation team arrives, everything is made and ready to go in.
Who installs the kitchen, and are they part of the same team?
Yes. The installation is carried out by our own team, the same people who have been involved in your project from the start. They know the design, they know your room, and they know exactly how the cabinetry has been built. There are no third-party installers who are seeing your plans for the first time on the day.
Do I need to have a clear idea of what I want before I get in touch?
Not at all. Many people come to us with very little fixed in their minds beyond knowing they want a kitchen that works properly for their home. Part of what the design process does is help you work out what you actually want. We ask the right questions and guide you through the decisions. You do not need to arrive with a mood board or a set brief.
Can you work with listed buildings or homes with restrictions on structural changes?
Yes. We are used to working in period properties with constraints around what can and cannot be altered. Because your kitchen is designed to fit the room as it stands, we do not need to move walls or make structural changes to achieve a good result. We design around the room you have, which is often the right approach regardless of whether there are formal restrictions in place.
How much disruption should I expect during installation?
There will always be some disruption when a kitchen is being installed, and we will not pretend otherwise. But because your cabinetry arrives fully built and ready to fit, the installation itself is efficient and well organised. We will give you a clear programme before work begins so you know what to expect on each day and how long the process will take.
Do you work across the wider Whitby area and the North Yorkshire coast?
Yes. We work across Whitby and the surrounding towns and villages along the North Yorkshire coast. If you are not sure whether your location is within our area, just ask. We also work further afield across the region, including in Middlesbrough and other parts of the county.
