Your Kitchen, Designed Around Your York Home

Whether you live in a Georgian townhouse in the city centre or a Victorian semi on the edge of York, your kitchen is designed specifically for your home, your space, and the way you use it.

Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well begins with the room itself. How the light falls, how you move through the space, how it connects to the rest of your home. Those things shape the layout before anything else is decided. Once the proportions are right, the visual choices follow naturally. Getting the fundamentals right first is what makes the rest of the design work.

York’s housing stock spans Georgian townhouses, Victorian semis, Edwardian detached homes, and city centre apartments. Each brings its own proportions, ceiling heights, window positions, and structural constraints. Your kitchen is designed to sit within that architecture, not imposed on top of it. We start from what your home is, not from a standard range drawn up for a different kind of space.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot move: these are not problems to work around on the day. They are resolved at the design stage. Every dimension is accounted for before manufacturing begins. By the time your kitchen is being built, nothing is left to chance.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team from start to finish. One process, one point of responsibility. The designer who draws it understands precisely how it will be made, because the two things are never separated.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built to the exact measurements of your room. Every cabinet is rigid and fully assembled before it leaves the workshop, not flat-pack components put together on site. Factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish. That is the difference between a kitchen that feels solid and one that is merely installed.

The same standard runs through the whole kitchen, not just the parts that face you. Drawer runners, hinges, internal fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you do not see every day are built to exactly the same standard as the ones you do. That consistency is what determines how well your kitchen holds up over time.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, standard sizes and catalogue configurations do not apply. If your room needs an unusual width, a run that follows a sloping ceiling, or something specific to a structural feature in your home, we design and build it exactly as required. Nothing is forced to fit. You can read more about how we approach quality and manufacturing on that page.

Your Kitchen Project, Handled from Start to Finish

From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating separate trades or chasing progress across different contractors. There are no gaps in responsibility, no handoffs mid-project. Everything moves forward properly because the same team holds it from the beginning.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, especially when your room has specific constraints or unusual features. Nobody arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time. If you want to understand what the process looks like in practice, how we work sets it out clearly.

A Georgian townhouse in York’s centre brings different demands to an Edwardian detached home in the suburbs, or a city centre apartment with limited ceiling height and no natural light on one wall. Your project is treated on its own terms, designed around what your home actually is, not adjusted to fit a standard programme drawn up for a different kind of house.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the precise dimensions of your room, measured carefully before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for things that were not properly resolved at the design stage. The work is done before the van pulls up.

Why York Households Choose Mastercraft

A kitchen at this level is a significant investment in your home. Getting the design right, the build quality right, and the installation managed properly all depend on choosing a team that controls the whole process. Mastercraft is a design and manufacturing practice, not a showroom brand. That distinction matters.

 • Designed, made and installed by the same team, with no handovers between separate contractors.
 • No showroom model. Your kitchen is designed around your home, not chosen from a catalogue.
 • Every kitchen designed from scratch for your specific room and the way you live in it.
 • Built in our own UK workshop, to the tolerances a properly bespoke kitchen demands.
 • A kitchen built to last and designed to age well, not to be replaced in ten years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a bespoke kitchen from Mastercraft typically cost?

Bespoke kitchens vary considerably in price because every project is different. The size of your room, the materials you choose, the appliances you want, and the level of storage detail all affect the final figure. As a general guide, most projects sit in the range of £25,000 to well over £60,000, with some larger or more complex kitchens going further. What we can tell you is that the price reflects a kitchen designed specifically for your home, built in our own workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. It is worth thinking about it as a long-term investment in your home rather than a purchase with a shelf life.

How long does the whole process take from first conversation to installation?

The timeline varies depending on the complexity of your kitchen and how quickly decisions are made, but most projects run over several months from initial consultation to installation. Design takes time to get right, and manufacturing is a careful process. We will give you a clear picture of the timescale when we have a proper understanding of your project. We would rather be accurate than optimistic.

What happens at the first design consultation?

We come to your home and look at the space properly. We talk through how you use the room, what works and what does not, what you want to change, and what you want to keep. It is a practical conversation, not a presentation. From there we have everything we need to begin developing a design. There is no obligation, and no pressure to proceed.

Can you design a kitchen for a room with unusual features, like a chimney breast, a sloping ceiling, or a low window?

Yes, and this is where designing from scratch makes a real difference. Structural features that would cause problems with a standard kitchen are resolved at the design stage. We measure precisely, account for every constraint, and build to fit your room exactly. Nothing is left to be worked around on installation day.

What styles of kitchen do you offer?

We design across a wide range of styles, from traditional in-frame cabinetry that suits period homes to clean-lined handleless kitchens that work well in more contemporary spaces. Because everything is designed and made to order, you are not limited to what a catalogue offers. If you want to explore what might suit your home, our kitchen design and styles pages are a useful starting point.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes, and having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly valuable in those situations. When your kitchen is part of a wider building project, the cabinetry often needs to respond to changes in the room that are still in progress. Because we control the design and build ourselves, we can adapt more easily and stay in step with the rest of the project. We are used to working alongside architects, builders, and project managers, and we know how to keep the kitchen element moving without creating delays elsewhere.

How is the cabinetry made, and where?

Everything is made in our own UK workshop. Your cabinets are built as rigid, fully assembled units before they leave the factory. That is different from flat-pack components that are assembled on site, and it produces a more consistent, more durable result. Because we make everything ourselves, we are also able to work to any dimensions your room requires.

Who carries out the installation?

Our own installation team, not a subcontracted crew. They know the kitchens they are fitting because they have been involved throughout. Nothing arrives on site being seen for the first time. That continuity is important, particularly in homes like those in York where rooms often have features that need careful handling.

Do you handle the full project, including worktops and appliances?

Yes. We can manage the whole kitchen project, including worktop supply and fitting, and we can advise on appliance choices that work well for your space and how you cook. The intention is that you have one team responsible for the whole thing, not several suppliers to coordinate yourself.

My home is a period property. Will a bespoke kitchen look right in it?

Period homes in York are some of the most characterful properties to work with. A kitchen designed specifically for your home will look right in a way that an off-the-shelf one rarely does, because it is drawn around the proportions and character of the room. Whether that means an in-frame design that respects the architecture or something more considered for a converted space, we start from your home, not from a standard template.

How far in advance should I get in touch if I am planning a new kitchen?

The earlier the better, particularly if your kitchen is part of a larger building project. Design takes time to get right, and manufacturing has a lead time once the design is signed off. Getting in touch early means you have room to think things through properly without decisions being rushed by a building programme. If you are simply exploring at this stage, that is fine too. A first conversation is just that.

Do you only work in York, or across a wider area?

We work across York and the surrounding area, including Harrogate, Leeds, Knaresborough, and other towns throughout North and West Yorkshire. If you are not sure whether we cover your area, just ask. We are happy to let you know.
