Your Kitchen, Designed Around Your Derby Home

Whatever your home looks like in Derby, your kitchen is designed from scratch to fit the space properly, not adapted from something drawn for a different house.

Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. The light, the proportions, how you move through the space, how it connects to what sits around it. Layout decisions come first. Everything else, the style, the finishes, the storage detail, follows from that. Get the layout right and the rest of the design has a solid foundation to build on.

Derby has a wide range of housing, from Victorian terraces and large Edwardian semis to modern city apartments and suburban family homes built in the last twenty years. Each type brings its own proportions, ceiling heights, structural constraints, and character. Your kitchen is designed to sit within that architecture, not applied over it or borrowed from a design drawn up for a completely different kind of space.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot be moved: these are resolved at the design stage, not worked around on the day of installation. Every dimension is accounted for before manufacturing begins. By the time your kitchen is being built, the room has been fully understood and everything has been drawn to fit it precisely.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The designer who draws it understands exactly how it will be manufactured. Nothing gets lost between design and build because there is no handoff between the two.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet is rigid and fully assembled before it leaves the workshop, not a collection of flat-pack components put together in your kitchen on the day. Factory assembly produces tighter tolerances and a more consistent finish than anything that goes together on site from a kit.

The same standard runs through every part of the kitchen, not just the parts you see most often. Drawer runners, hinges, interior fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you cannot see are built to exactly the same standard as the ones you look at every day. That consistency is what determines how well your kitchen holds up over the years.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not working from a catalogue of standard sizes. If your room needs an unusual cabinet width, a run of units beneath a sloping ceiling, or something specific to the way your space is shaped, we design and build it exactly as required. The workshop does not place limits on what the design can do.

Your Derby Kitchen Project, Managed from Start to Finish

From your first conversation through to the day your kitchen is handed over, the whole project sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one process. You are not left coordinating trades or chasing progress from different directions. There are no handoffs between separate contractors, no gaps where responsibility falls through. Everything moves forward because one team holds it from the beginning.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand exactly how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity makes a real practical difference, particularly when your room has unusual features or specific constraints. Nobody arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time and trying to work out how to make them fit.

Derby homes vary considerably in their starting points. A Victorian terrace brings different constraints to a modern apartment or a large Edwardian semi. Your project is treated on its own terms. The process is not adjusted to fit a standard programme drawn up for a different kind of house. We begin with what your specific home actually requires.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for things that were not fully resolved at the design stage. The installation goes smoothly because the preparation was thorough.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bespoke kitchen project typically take from first conversation to completion?

It varies depending on the complexity of the design and your room, but from the initial consultation through to installation, most projects run over several months. Design takes time to get right, manufacturing follows once everything is confirmed, and installation is booked once your kitchen is ready to go in. We give you a clear timeline once the design and specification are agreed, so you know what to expect at each stage.

What happens at the first design consultation?

We come to your home, look at the room properly, and talk through what you are hoping to achieve. We look at how the space currently works, what the constraints are, and what would make it work better. It is a practical conversation, not a presentation. Nothing is pushed at you. At the end of it, you will have a clearer sense of what is possible and how we would approach the project.

What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?

Bespoke kitchens vary quite a lot in cost because so many things influence the final figure: the size of the room, the materials specified for doors and worktops, the appliances you choose, and the level of storage and internal detail. A more complex room with high-specification materials and a full appliance package sits at a different price point to a smaller space with a more straightforward brief. What we can say is that our kitchens represent a serious investment, and the people who come to us are usually looking for something that will last and perform well over the long term, not the cheapest option available. Once we understand your room and your brief, we can give you a clear and honest picture of what your project is likely to involve.

Can you work with unusual room shapes or awkward architectural features?

Yes, and those situations are often where bespoke design is most useful. Chimney breasts, alcoves, sloping ceilings, rooms that are not square: all of these are resolved at the design stage. Because we make your kitchen ourselves, we are not constrained by catalogue sizes or standard configurations. If your room has something unusual about it, the design is built around that, not in spite of it.

What kitchen styles do you offer?

We work across a wide range of styles, from classic shaker kitchens to handleless designs and fully framed cabinetry. The style is chosen to suit your home and the way you want the space to feel, not to fit a trend. Because everything is designed from scratch, the style, proportions, and detailing are all considered together as part of the same design process.

How is the kitchen manufactured and where?

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop. Every cabinet is fully assembled at the workshop before it arrives at your home, not built on site from flat-pack components. This means tighter tolerances, a more consistent finish, and a faster, more controlled installation. Because we do the manufacturing ourselves, the people making your kitchen have a direct relationship with the people who designed it.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes. When a kitchen is part of a wider building project, such as a rear extension, a full ground-floor renovation, or a significant reconfiguration of the layout, having design and manufacturing under one roof makes a real difference. We can work alongside your architect and builder, and because we control the design and the build of the cabinetry ourselves, we can adapt as the project develops without things getting lost between different contractors. If you are planning something bigger than just a kitchen replacement, it is worth talking to us early so the kitchen design can be considered properly from the start.

Will the same people be involved from design through to installation?

Yes. One team is responsible throughout. The designer who works with you on the plans understands how the kitchen will be made. The installation team knows exactly what was designed and why. There are no handoffs to separate trades and no one arriving on site who is unfamiliar with your project. That continuity matters, particularly in rooms with specific requirements.

Do you handle the removal of an existing kitchen?

Yes. Strip-out of your existing kitchen is part of the service. You do not need to arrange that separately. We handle the full process from the point your old kitchen comes out to the point your new one is in place and ready to use.

How precise is the measuring process before manufacturing begins?

Very precise. Before anything is made, your room is measured in detail. Every dimension is confirmed and accounted for in the drawings before manufacturing begins. Because we make your kitchen to those exact dimensions, everything is built to fit your specific room. When installation begins, the cabinetry arrives ready to go in without on-site modification.

What worktop materials do you work with?

We work with a range of worktop materials including stone, quartz, solid wood, and other surfaces, and we will help you choose the right one for how you use your kitchen as well as how you want it to look. The worktop is part of the overall design conversation, not an afterthought. You can find more information on the options on our worktops page.

How far in advance should I get in touch if I am planning a kitchen?

The earlier the better, particularly if your kitchen is part of a building project or you have a specific date in mind. Design takes time to do well, and manufacturing follows from confirmed drawings. Getting in touch early means you have more room to make considered decisions rather than rushing through the design stage. That said, if your timeline is tighter, it is still worth a conversation. We will give you an honest picture of what is achievable.
