Your Kitchen, Designed for Your Reading Home

Whether you live in a Victorian terrace, an Edwardian semi, a modern apartment or a larger detached home, your kitchen is designed specifically for your space, not adapted from something drawn for a different kind of house.

Designed Around Your Home

Designing a kitchen well starts with the room itself. How the light moves through it, how you get from one end to the other, how it connects to the spaces alongside it. Layout and proportions are the first decisions. Everything else, the materials, the finishes, the details, follows from that. Getting the fundamentals right is what makes everything else work.

Reading has a wide range of housing, and each type brings its own set of proportions and constraints. A Victorian terrace in Caversham sits differently to a large detached house on the edge of Tilehurst, and a modern apartment in the town centre is a different problem again. Your kitchen is designed to sit within your architecture, starting from what your home actually is.

Alcoves, chimney breasts, sloping ceilings, walls that cannot move: these things are resolved at the design stage. Every measurement is taken and accounted for before manufacturing begins. By the time your kitchen is being built, there are no unresolved questions about the room. Nothing gets worked around on installation day.

Your kitchen is designed individually, built in our own UK workshop, and installed by the same team throughout. One process, one point of responsibility. The designer who draws your kitchen understands exactly how it will be made, because design and manufacturing sit together under one roof.

Crafted Cabinetry, Built to Last

Your kitchen is made in our own UK workshop, built specifically for your home. Every cabinet arrives on site rigid and fully assembled, not as flat-pack components put together in your kitchen. Factory assembly produces tighter, more consistent results than anything that can be achieved on site from a kit. That consistency runs through every part of what we build.

The same standard applies throughout, not just to the parts you see every day. Drawer runners, hinges, internal fittings: all specified and finished to the same level as the doors and worktops. The parts you open and close every day for the next twenty years are built to hold up. How well a kitchen is built underneath is what determines how well it lasts.

Because we make your kitchen ourselves, standard sizes and catalogue configurations are not the constraint they would be elsewhere. If your room needs an unusual run width, cabinetry beneath a sloping ceiling, or something specific to an awkward corner, we design and build it exactly as required. The room shapes the kitchen, not the other way around.

Your Reading Kitchen Project, Handled From Start to Finish

From your first conversation to the day your kitchen is handed over, everything sits with Mastercraft. Design, manufacturing, installation: one team, one continuous process. You are not left coordinating separate trades or chasing progress updates. There are no gaps between contractors, no handovers where things get lost. The project moves forward properly because one team holds it throughout, from the first visit to the final fitting.

The designers who plan your kitchen understand how it will be built. The team who builds it knows what was designed and why. That continuity matters in practice, especially when your room has particular features or constraints. Nobody arrives on site seeing your plans for the first time. Everyone involved already knows the project before they walk through your door.

Reading homes range considerably in age and character. A Victorian terrace off the Oxford Road, an Edwardian semi in Earley, a newer build near the station, a larger home out towards Woodley or Sonning: each has its own starting point. Your project is treated on its own terms, designed for what your home actually is, not adjusted to fit a standard programme drawn up for a different kind of house.

Your cabinetry is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room, measured precisely before anything is made. When installation begins, everything arrives ready to fit your space. There are no on-site adjustments to compensate for things not fully resolved at the design stage. The work on the day reflects the care taken in the weeks before it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bespoke kitchen project usually take from start to finish?

It depends on the complexity of your kitchen and how much is involved in the design stage, but most projects run from around twelve to twenty weeks between your initial consultation and installation being complete. We will give you a clear timeline once we understand your room and what is involved.

What happens at the first consultation?

We come to your home and look at the space properly. We talk through how you use your kitchen, what is and is not working at the moment, and what you want the new one to do. It is a practical conversation, not a presentation. By the end of it, you should have a clear sense of how we work and what the next steps look like.

Can you work with an unusual or awkward room layout?

Yes, and this is often where bespoke design makes the most difference. Alcoves, chimney breasts, low ceilings, rooms that are not square, walls that cannot move: all of these are resolved at the design stage. We measure your room thoroughly and design around what is actually there, so nothing is left to chance on installation day.

What kitchen styles do you offer?

Because every kitchen is designed from scratch, the style is led by your home and your preferences rather than a fixed range. In period properties in Reading we often work with classic and in-frame styles. In more contemporary homes, handleless and more minimal designs work well. We will talk through what suits your space and show you finishes and examples as the design develops.

What does a bespoke kitchen typically cost?

Bespoke kitchens vary considerably depending on the size of the room, the materials you choose, the appliances involved, and the level of storage and fitting detail. It is a meaningful investment, and the cost reflects that. Most of our projects sit in the range where quality, longevity and craftsmanship are the priorities. We will be straightforward with you about costs once we understand your project, so you can make a clear and informed decision before committing to anything.

How is the kitchen actually made?

Every cabinet is built in our own UK workshop, designed to the exact dimensions of your room. Cabinets arrive on site fully assembled and rigid, not as flat-pack components. This means the fit, the finish and the structural integrity are all set before anything is installed. You are not relying on on-site assembly to get things right.

Do you supply and fit appliances as well?

Yes. We work with a range of appliance brands and can advise on what suits your kitchen and the way you cook. Appliances are specified as part of the design process, so everything integrates properly rather than being added at the end.

Who manages the installation?

Our own installation team handles the fitting. They are not a separate contractor brought in at the end. Because they work alongside the design and manufacturing process, they already know your kitchen before they arrive. That makes a real difference, particularly in a room with unusual features or tight tolerances.

Do you work on larger renovation projects or extensions?

Yes, and having design and manufacturing under one roof is particularly valuable in that situation. When your kitchen is part of a wider building project, things like structural changes, new openings or alterations to the room all affect how the kitchen is designed and built. We can work closely with your builder or architect, and because we control the full process ourselves, changes can be accommodated properly rather than causing problems down the line.

How many times will you visit before the design is finalised?

As many times as the project requires. We start with a visit to your home to understand the space, then develop the design and share it with you. If adjustments are needed, we work through them until the design is right. You will not be asked to sign off on something you are not fully happy with.

Do you only work in Reading, or do you cover the surrounding villages too?

We work across Reading and throughout the surrounding area, including towns and villages across Berkshire. If you are close to Reading but slightly outside the town, it is worth getting in touch. We are likely to work in your area.

What is the best way to get started?

Get in touch and tell us a little about your home and what you are thinking about. We will arrange a visit at a time that works for you. There is no commitment involved at that stage. It is simply a chance to look at your room together and start thinking through what your kitchen could be.
